Although Carmelo Anthony decided to re-sign with the New York Knicks this offseason, he seems aware that there were better opportunities to win in free agency.

More from NBA

Anthony was courted by the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and more yet decided to return to the New York Knicks. Still, the Bulls, Rockets and Mavericks are all expected to be playoff caliber teams and Carmelo Anthony knows they would have provided him a better chance to win this season than the Knicks.

Despite that, Carmelo Anthony was quick to point out that leaving the New York Knicks ‘wouldn’t have felt right’ and has previously stated that he never wanted to leave in free agency. Why exactly he went on a free agent tour then is unknown, though at the end of the day Carmelo Anthony decided to return to the Knicks who offered him the most financial security.

If there is a silver lining for Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks it’s that the team will have a mass amount of cap space going into 2015 free agency and should be able to re-tool their roster very quickly. They still may not be as good as the Bulls, Rockets or Mavericks though they appear to be on the correct path.
