Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant on free agency: ‘I can’t tell you the future’
If you didn’t like hearing about the impending free agency of LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony throughout the 2013-2014 season, you probably won’t enjoy hearing about Kevin Durant, who can become a free agent in 2016, for the next two seasons.

Unlike some, Durant acknowledged his impending free agency.
“We’ll keep dancing around (the topic), and by the time it comes it’s going to be even more awkward than it was, so it’s not a surprise (that people ask him about it) because everybody wants to know,” Durant told USA TODAY Sports. “But I’m taking it day by day with the Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s my main concern. And whatever the future holds, I don’t know, because I can’t tell you the future. I’m going to take it a day at a time. I enjoy being here. I enjoy my teammates. I like the direction we’re going in, and that’s not just a cliché (expletive) answer. That’s real.”
Durant’s words indicate the Thunder are still the favorite to retain him but he is clearly keeping his options open.
Durant averaged 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 50.3% from the floor, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 87.3% from the charity stripe during the regular season. In the 2014 postseason, he averaged 29.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 46.0% from the field, 34.4.1% from beyond the arc and 81.0% from the foul line. In his career, he’s averaged 27.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field, 37.7% from three and 88.2% from the field.
