Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers are getting to work in 2014. After a disappointing Week 1 loss, the team has ripped off consecutive victories thanks first and foremost to the stellar play of Rivers. Teammates believe he’s doing such a good job that he deserves to be in the discussion with the other top quarterbacks in the NFL.

“You look what he can do when he’s protected, and it’s no different than the other top quarterbacks in the league,” safety Eric Weddle said of Rivers per ESPN. “Just because they’ve won Super Bowls and he hasn’t, doesn’t mean he’s not at the same stature. Look at what he’s doing.”
He’s certainly doing something right. Rivers had tallied 1,155 yards, 9 touchdowns and just one interception to start the season, giving the Chargers the boost they need to return to the playoffs and possibly even challenge the Denver Broncos for AFC West supremacy. That’s enough for Rivers to get an MVP vote from the guys he’s carrying.
“When he’s playing that way and we can protect them, he can do anything those other guys can do,” Weddle continued. “And if you don’t think that, then people just don’t know football.”
