Before the Chicago Bulls decided to sign Pau Gasol this offseason, it was expected that Taj Gibson would finally crack the starting lineup.

Of course, despite deserving the extra playing time, Gibson will again be regulated to bench duty. It’s great for the depth of the Chicago Bulls, though there were rumors suggesting Taj Gibson wasn’t happy with such a role. The Chicago Bulls’ defensive anchor disagrees with such a notion though suggesting he’s more of a throwback player and will do whatever the team needs.
“The way I attack the game, I really don’t care,” Gibson said at Monday’s media day. “I just go out and play, whatever minutes I get. And that’s kind of the player I am, that’s the luxury about having a player like me: I don’t care if I start, I don’t care if I come off the bench; you’re going to get production out of me. That’s the way I was taught and Coach Thibs is always schooling me on how it was in the old school, and I appreciate playing in the NBA. I just attack it.”
Obviously there isn’t a player in the NBA who doesn’t want to be a starter. That said, Taj Gibson’s stance on coming off the bench has to be beloved by those in the Chicago Bulls organization. Not only do they have a big man signed to a rather team friendly contract but Gibson also does the dirty work and is happy to do it in limited time for the better of the roster?
Appreciate Taj Gibson, Windy City, because you have a pretty rare talent in Taj Gibson.
