While Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak believes he’s built a roster worthy of a playoff spot, such is unlikely to happen in a deep Western Conference.

That doesn’t mean the Los Angeles Lakers lack talent though as not only is the roster littered with solid veterans but high quality rookies like Jordan Clarkson who could beat out Steve Nash and Jeremy Lin as the starting point guard.
While it’s likely that Lin or Nash will began the season as the Los Angeles Lakers point guard some within the organization believe that it will be Jordan Clarkson who finishes the year as the starter.
"The 46th overall selection had a great off-season and impressed Lakers coaches at the Las Vegas summer league. One team insider thinks Clarkson could push for the starting job at point guard later in the season."
The line of reasoning here is likely that the Los Angeles Lakers won’t be in contention for a playoff spot and both Steve Nash and Jeremy Lin have a questionable future in Southern California. Nash is expected to retire at season end while Lin will be a pending free agent. Giving Clarkson the reigns to the team would essentially be the Los Angeles Lakers banking more on the future than the present, though, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if the team doesn’t play up to expectations.
