With Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, Carlos Boozer and Jeremy Lin in the Los Angeles Lakers’ lineup (and perhaps starting five), there’s no doubt there will be plenty of scoring in Southern California this season.

What there won’t be is much defense.

While Kobe Bryant has proven himself to be a very good defender, he’s no longer the player he once was and the rest of his cast is nothing short of abysmal on the defensive end. Nick Young is a sub-par defender on his best day while both Carlos Boozer and Jeremy Lin are among the worst at their position.

All that said Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders feels that the Los Angeles Lakers are going to be one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA.

"They are going to just have to go crazy offensively, because I can’t possibly envision a scenario in which they are better than about 25th in defense. They don’t have a single above-average defensive player on the roster, and I think Byron Scott is the only coach to every preside over 3 straight bottom 25 teams in defense while in CLE."

Kobe Bryant can only do so much for the Los Angeles Lakers and much as he might try, he simply can’t guard the oppositions starting five.

It doesn’t seem as if the Los Angeles Lakers will have much problem on the offensive side but defensively, it could be a disaster.
