On Monday afternoon the Phoenix Suns signed both Markieff and Marcus Morris to a contract extension ensuring that the brothers will remain together for the next few seasons at least.

Of course, negotiating a contract between family members can be a little unusual which is why the Phoenix Suns decided to try something different. The team agreed that they would be willing to fork over about $52 million dollars between the two players, but wasn’t sure how to divvy up the funds. Not wanting to piss each other off, the Phoenix Suns decided to wash their hands of the situation and let both Markieff and Marcus decide their own contracts.

“I did something I’ve never done before,” Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby said. “Once we agreed on the amount of money, I gave them the first crack at how to divide it up.”

While a bit unusual it seemed to work pretty well as the Morris twins quickly got back to the Phoenix Suns and had their contracts signed in a matter of days.

Ironically, the Morris’ aren’t the only brothers on the Phoenix Suns roster after the team signed Zoran Dragic, younger brother of point guard Goran Dragic last week. Zoran however signed a two-year deal so the team won’t be able to use the same strategy when they attempt to re-sign Goran come the end of the season.
