Although Rudy Gay decided to opt-in to his player contract which will pay him $19 million dollars this season, the Sacramento Kings are still interested in re-signing him at season end.

It was said Sacramento wanted to sign Gay to an extension this past offseason though understandably turning down nearly $20 million dollars wasn’t a smart business move for Gay. Alas, no deal was struck though the Kings want Gay back according to Jason Jones.
"The Kings want Gay beyond this season. Had Gay left, the plan was to aggressively pursue a trade for a small forward."
Rudy Gay has stated on more than one occasion that he believes he can see a future with the Sacramento Kings. Of course, he wants to be paid handsomely to remain in California’s capital city though it seems as if the Sacramento Kings are willing to cooperate.
By Rudy Gay exercising his player option he’ll not only make more money this season than he could have if he had signed an extension but he also stands to make more money moving forward thanks to an elevating NBA salary cap. Still, money doesn’t appear to be a concern for Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive who sold his software company Tibco on Monday afternoon for $4.3 billion dollars.
If Rudy Gay does hit the open market, he’s expected to be highly coveted.
