In a practice report, the Houston Texans revealed star running back Arian Foster did not participate with the rest of the team, sitting out to rehab a lingering hamstring injury.

Depending on which side of the fence you stand on, Foster’s hammy could be worrisome.

For the fans of the Houston Texans, Foster being on the field Sunday could help toward a 4-1 record, one of the best in the league. Statistically, Foster hasn’t been one of the best running backs in the NFL, but his presence forces defenses to at least respect the run. That opens things up in the air for whomever is at quarterback for Houston (Ryan Fitzpatrick — the Texans are 14th in offense).

Unfortunately, Foster’s presence on the field does little for the thousands who selected the undrafted running back near the top of their fantasy drafts. In three games, Foster has rushed for 247 yards, good for 11th-best in the NFL, but the length of those runs are short and he’s not producing touchdowns.

To be specific, Foster is rushing for 3.9 yards per attempt, the lowest of his career and 32nd best amongst league running backs. And in regards to touchdowns, Foster has only claimed one rushing touchdown on the season. There’s room for Foster to improve (it’s early in the season), but fantasy owners are growing impatient with his productivity.

With four days between now and Sunday, Foster will have time to recover, but if he’s unable to go — despite his slow start — the journey for 4-1 will be a lot tougher.
