When you think of the NBA’s MVP award, you think of LeBron James or Kevin Durant. Somebody you normally wouldn’t think of is Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard, though basketball legend Hakeem Olajuwon suggests that line of reasoning may need to change.

More from Houston Rockets

Olajuwon spends a good portion of his down time working with NBA players and one of those is Dwight Howard who The Dream believes can put up an MVP caliber season this year.

“The concept with Dwight is to start and pick up where he left off last year,” Olajuwon said. “He played incredibly well in the playoffs and if he can carry that over to start the season, I think I will be voting for him for the MVP.

“He has tremendous confidence. He is looking for an MVP year. Just the demeanor, the confidence level, the way he played last year, I expect something great from him this year.”

Talent hasn’t really ever been a question for Dwight Howard but rather his desire to win, especially after Kobe Bryant called him out during their short time together with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now with James Harden on his side, the Houston Rockets big man has every tool at his disposal to have a wonderful season though will it be enough to take home the MVP trophy? That seems a little far fetched though he could certainly put himself in the conversation if he’s to have a good year.
