Larry Donnell lost his fantasy football matchup because he benched himself
New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell was definitely the breakout player for fantasy football in Week 4. He led all tight ends in standard scoring with 23.40 points (based on Yahoo’s default public league settings), despite being projected to be pretty much a non-factor.

Unfortunately for Donnell, he wasn’t all that optimistic about his own performance leading into Week 4, and he left himself on his bench for his own fantasy team.
Instead, Donnell started 49ers star Vernon Davis, who only got 0.80 points in standard scoring leagues.
Donnell ended up losing his matchup by 15 points. If he had a little more confidence in himself, he would have won his matchup somewhat comfortably.
His career-best performance for the ages included 7 catches for 54 yards and 3 touchdowns. Davis, on the other hand, was hobbled by back spasms and only ended up with two catches for 8 yards.
Going forward, Donnell will probably be in his own starting lineup, and many more. His Week 4 performance turned a lot of heads, and it’s obvious that Eli Manning has a lot of confidence in his young tight end, even if Donnell didn’t have enough confidence in himself to put himself in his starting lineup.
Was it fool’s gold? Perhaps a bit, since it’s highly unlikely that Donnell will put up another 3-score week. But he’s definitely talented, and it’s obvious that Manning won’t hesitate to give him the ball in the red zone. If Donnell is available, you might want to grab him in your fantasy leagues while you still can. He looks to be a pretty legit fantasy factor moving forward.
