Ryan Braun was looking to come back from his 2013 suspension and once again look like the Most Valuable Player that the Milwaukee Brewers needed him to be.

More from Milwaukee Brewers

Despite the Brewers blistering start and uninspired end to their 2014 season, Braun didn’t factor much into anything. On Thursday, he underwent a procedure on his ailing thumb. Bruan had issues with his thumb most of the season. At points it caused him to be removed from the lineup, as well as make trips to the disabled list. When he was on the field, he looked like a shell of his former self, and his power stroke was all but gone.

The Brewers took to twitter to officially announce the procedure:

Many assumed Braun would need some sort of surgery to correct the issues he was dealing with in his thumb. Considering the length of time the ailment had bothered him and the reports suggesting that it wasn’t getting better, this was procedure was inevitable.

For the Brewers, the hope is that the procedure fixes the problem. Braun is still young and should have quite a few years of productive baseball in front of him.

Like him or not, and I definitely dislike him for how he treated a Major League Baseball drug collection employee, he’s a great baseball player and watching him compete this year was just unfortunate.
