Rajai Davis will make an attempt to play on Sunday

Center fielder Rajai Davis was lifted in the fourth inning of the Detroit Tigers’ 7-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in Game Two of the ALDS, but he could return for Game Three:

Given that Davis was lifted in favor of pinch-runner Ezequiel Carrera after Davis couldn’t run out a should-have-been double (which ended up as a single) seems to be really optimistic, considering Davis initially suffered the injury – a strained pelvic ligament, similar to a groin injury — less than a week ago, and is a player who relies upon his speed and legs.

If Davis isn’t able to run at close to full strength on Sunday, when the series shifts to Detroit, the Tigers might be better off not using the speedy center fielder at all.

Carerra started as Detroit’s primary center fielder following the trade of Austin Jackson to Seattle, but quickly lost playing time to Davis and Don Kelly. Carerra isn’t a good hitter, nor a great fielder, but does give the Tigers some much-needed speed as Davis’s replacement, though having a career-minor leaguer like Carerra start isn’t exactly an ideal situation for Detroit manager Brad Ausmus.
