Diamondbacks to interview Rangers’ Tim Bogar
The Arizona Diamondbacks have cast a wide net as they search to fill their managerial opening, and have received permission from the Texas Rangers to interview Tim Bogar for the job, reports CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman. It’s a bit surprising as Texas is looking for a permanent replacement for longtime manager Ron Washington, and Bogar had a good finish to the season as interim manager for the Rangers, and was presumed to be a serious candidate for the full-time job.

For the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bogar joins a list of external candidates known to include Joe McEwing, Chip Hale, Lorenzo Bundy, and Sandy Alomar Jr. Phil Nevin, Andy Green and Turner Ward, who are already in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ organization, are also under consideration. The Arizona Diamondbacks fired Kirk Gibson in September as Chief Baseball Officer Tony La Russa continued to clean the Arizona Diamondbacks’s house.
Bogar was believed to be on the Rangers’ short list of managerial picks, along with Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux and Texas Triple-A manager Steve Buechele. It’s unknown if Bogar is still considered a candidate for the Texas job, or if he was ever a serious candidate to begin with, though it’s also certainly possible Bogar is seriously interested in both the Dbacks and the Rangers jobs, and the Rangers aren’t going to stop him from his career, even if that means losing Bogar to another organization.
