Boston Bruins trade Johnny Boychuk to New York Islanders
The Boston Bruins have traded Johnny Boychuck to the New York Islanders
Guys, I called this months ago, but I’m still in shock that it actually happened.
According to Joe Haggerty, who knows everything Bruins ever, this just happened:
It looks like the Bruins, who were in cap hell, have decided that they’re willing to give away one of their top blue-liners in exchange for practically every draft pick the Islanders had to offer.

Many fans were upset to hear that there were speculations of Johnny Boychuk headed out of Boston, but the team was left with little choice. After the signing of RFA’s Torey Krug and Reilly Smith to identical one-year, $1.2-million bridge deals, the team was only slithering under the salary cap due to forward Marc Savard’s long term injured reserve status.
Even then, the team was left with peanuts to offer at the trade deadline, and not much they could do about it- ten of the team’s main roster players have either a no-trade clause or the all-inclusive no-movement clause attached to their contracts. Johnny Boychuk was one of the few with no limitations; his NTC had expired in June of this calendar year.
Just hours earlier, the team had placed Jordan Caron, Craig Cunningham, and Dave Warsofsky on waivers. After doing so, the team will have almost four million in cap relief with the LTIR placement. They will start the season with ten roster forwards (not counting Caron or Cunningham), and seven defenseman.
Seems like the team could be looking to make a final trade for another cheap forward, but no news surrounding that idea yet.
