Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is back this year, and that has many fans under the impression that a playoff run is possible. So is it?

Last season was a nightmare for the Los Angeles Lakers as the team lost a ton of games while Kobe Bryant literally flew away from the team and spent the season in another country. But the woes of the 2013-14 campaign will be forgotten if the team wins this year, which is actually pretty possible.

It’s easy to hate on the Lakers and say they’re going to be no good, but cooler heads are prevailing with predictions. Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders notes that if the Lakers can get 60 games this season out of Kobe, they may be in contention for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

That’s a rather bold prediction but it’s not an impossible one by any stretch. The Lakers have an improved team, a solid head coach and most importantly — Kobe is back.

It’s a tough sale to make, but the Lakers have things going for them. What’s going against them though is they’re a bottom-level Eastern Conference team playing in the rough and tough Western Conference.
