Barrett tossed four touchdowns for the third consecutive game and added a rushing score as well as Ohio State defeated Maryland by the score of 52-24 to improve to 4-1 and 1-0 in the Big Ten while the Terps fell to 4-2 and 1-1 in conference.
The continued development of Barrett and the confidence he has shown in this offense has blossomed since the Buckeyes were upset at home against the Virginia Tech Hokies and has been simply brilliant in running the offense the last three weeks.
Barrett finished with 267 yards and four touchdowns on 18-of-23 passing. Barrett also rushed for 71 yards on 16 carries and connected with four different receivers for scores as the Buckeyes weren’t really tested on the afternoon as they took a 31-0 lead to half with scores from Rod Smith, Jalin Marshall, Michael Thomas and Nick Vannett. Thomas led the team in receiving with 75 yards on four receptions.
Elliott led the Buckeyes in rushing with 139 yards on the ground on 24 carries on the heels of his 182 yards the week before as he looks like the next great Ohio State running back.
The Buckeyes defense rattled Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown who entered the game with a wrist injury and didn’t make it through the game after he went 11-of-18 with 71 yards and an interception. Backup Caleb Rowe was not better as he threw three interceptions, including one that was returned 19-yards by true freshman middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan.
Maryland was outgained 533-310 and were unable to overcome the four turnovers by their two quarterbacks as the Buckeyes made them pay for their mistakes.
