In his first season as head coach of the UCLA Bruins, Steve Alford had a lot of success. Steve Alford led the Bruins to a 28-9 record (12-6 in the Pac-12) and a trip to the Sweet 16 where they were knocked off by the Florida Gators.

The Bruins have rewarded Steve Alford for his quick success.

According to The Associated Press, the Bruins have extended the contract of Steve Alford.

"UCLA coach Steve Alford is getting a one-year contract extension through the 2020-21 season one year after arriving in Westwood.Alford guided the Bruins to a 28-9 record, the Pac-12 tournament title and the school’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2008. He tied Gene Bartow (1975-76) for the most wins by any coach in his first season at the school.Athletic director Dan Guerrero announced the extension Friday."

Steve Alford is probably best known as a guard on the Indiana Hoosiers under Bob Knight. However, he has been a college basketball head coach since 1991, leading five programs on along the way. He’s coached Manchester (1991-1995), Southwest Missouri State (1995-1999), Iowa (1999-2007), New Mexico (2008-2013) and now the Bruins. His career record is 489–242.
