The Cincinnati Bearcats have made some small, but significant, changes to the baseline decorations on their home floor at Fifth Third Arena.

Specifically, they added these:

The athletic department’s official Twitter account referred to the addition of the eyes as “exciting.”

Others might be more inclined to use the word “creepy,” but to each their own.

The Bearcats also announced that this weekend will be the official start to the 2014-15 season for their men’s and women’s basketball teams with a blacktop event on an outdoor court near the Ohio River.

“Basketball at the Banks” will be a free public event two hours before the start of Cincinnati’s scheduled home football game against Memphis at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Players and coaches will be introduced and the teams will have shoot-arounds and sign autographs.

That seems like a cooler thing to do than painting eyeballs on the end of a basketball court, but your mileage may vary.

The Basketball at the Banks event is similar to how the Bearcats rang in the 2013-14 season, when they held an event at Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati called Midday Madness.

"“Being a Cincinnati native, I’m happy to be able to get our basketball team out in the community,” Cincinnati men’s coach Mick Cronin said. “Our Midday Madness event last year had a great turnout and we are hoping for more of the same this year.”"

No word on whether the special outdoor court for the event will be keeping its eyes on the festivities.
