Patriots’ wide receiver Danny Amendola is questionable to return to Sunday night’s game against the Bengals

It’s taken four weeks, but what seems the inevitable for New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola has happened. He’s likely suffered a concussion following a hit from Cincinnati Bengals’ safety Reggie Nelson and is questionable to return to the game.

There aren’t many receivers who are known as injury prone, but Amendola is one of the few who have the labeled attached to them. Since the 2010 season, Amendola has not appeared in all 16 game in a season. Last season, his first with the Patriots, Amendola missed six games because of concussions.

Prior to injury, Amendola’s 2014 season was off to a rough start. Avoiding injury, Amendola reportedly fell out of favor with quarterback Tom Brady. Before tonight’s game, Amendola was responsible for 9 targets (3 receptions) for 16 yards. In comparison, Julian Edelman, a reported favorite of Brady, has been targeted 36 times, catching 26.

With the Patriots thin at wide receiver — especially after waiving undrafted rookie Kenbrall Tompkins — the pressure increases for Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Lafell, and Julian Edelman to produce. Second-year receiver Aaron Dobson may also see time after being inactive the last two games for reportedly mouthing off to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

The Patriots currently lead the Bengals 14-0.
