The Cowboys faced their own third-and-long situation and wide receiver Dez Bryant made a huge catch to keep the drive going and set up the game-winning field goal. Bryant elevated to reach over Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph to make the catch, and Joseph couldn’t have played the ball any better.
That earned Bryant the praise of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
“Dez really has never not understood the gravity of a play in the situation,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He responds to that. He goes to another level the higher the stakes. I think you saw that. … He’s that guy that kind of says, ‘Give it to me,’ when it’s on the line.
“He’s exceptional. [The play] ought to get a good place in our memories in Cowboys history.”
Bryant for his part attributed the play to desire and practice.
“It was make or break,” Bryant said. “I knew it as well. I’ve got to come down with it. I out-fought him. The crazy thing is we practice these situations every Thursday, and it came up.”
“It was as key a play as you could hope for,” Jones said, “because it was a ball that probably wasn’t supposed to be caught.”
