Thanks to a late home run from Matt Kemp, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to knot their NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals at 1-1 after the team dropped the opener behind Clayton Kershaw.

The presumable (and deserving) National League Cy Young award winner, Kershaw was obliterated by the Cardinals in Game 1 who have proven themselves to be a thorn in the side of the elite pitcher. What does that mean for Kershaw’s status in Game 4? There have been reports that Clayton Kershaw could start on short rest for Game 4 though as of right now, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be undecided.

Bringing Kershaw back on short rest probably isn’t something the Los Angeles Dodgers are thrilled with doing, though they may feel the need if things don’t go their way in Game 3.

Scheduled to take the mound in Game 4 for the Los Angeles Dodgers is Dan Haren who has been relatively woeful for most of the season, especially as of late. Thanks to the short five-game series, if the Dodgers don’t win in Game 3 they’d be facing elimination with Haren on the bump which likely terrifies those in Southern California.

Given that, it seems most likely that if the Dodgers are victorious in Game 3 they’ll stick with the current rotation which would allow Clayton Kershaw to be on normal rest for a winner-take-all Game 5. If the Dodgers are to lose Game 3 and face elimination, you’d have to assume Kershaw will take the mound.
