Vance McDonald will make his first start for the 49ers at tight end in place of Vernon Davis. Former Dolphin Jonathan Martin will once again play in place of Anthony Davis. Martin was one of the players at the center of the bullying scandal last season with the Miami Dolphins. The situation there eventually cost former Pro Bowler Richie Incognito his NFL career. Martin was a promising prospect with the Dolphins, but that situation became untenable and he was eventually traded to the 49ers. Martin says that the 49ers locker room is strong, and has been a productive player for them thus far.
On the Chiefs, A.J. Jenkins is starting in place of Avery.
