UCLA Bruins miss game-winning field goal after flop, Utah Utes win 30-28 (GIF)

UCLA got two chances at a game-winning field goal but couldn’t hit either

The eighth-ranked UCLA Bruins trailed the Utah Utes for most of the night.

Down 27-21 late in the fourth quarter, UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley threw his best pass of the night, connecting with Eldridge Massington for a 40-yard touchdown with just 4:50 to play to finally give UCLA the lead.

Utah quarterback Kendal Thompson responded, driving the Utes 63 yard on 10 plays in 4:16. Andy Phillips’ 29-yard field goal but Utah up 30-28 with just 34 seconds to play.

Without a timeout, Hundley guided UCLA to the Utah 37-yard line. With seven seconds left, kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn lined up to kick the potential game-winner but pushed it way right. However, Utah was called for running into the kicker on what was a great flop that would make Bill Laimbeer, Vlade Divas, Manu Ginobili and Anderson Varejao proud.

UCLA moved up five yards but Fairbairn missed again, giving Utah a 30-28 victory and handing UCLA their first loss.
