With the NBA on the verge of securing a near $25 billion dollar television deal, it’s expected the league will see a massive jump in their salary cap which will allow teams to spend even more money moving forward.

One of those teams who’ll have the ability to make significant moves thanks to the new cap system are the Los Angeles Lakers who could potentially have enough space to offer three maximum level contracts.

This of course couldn’t happen until Kobe Bryant’s contract comes off the books (which will happen after the 2015-16 season) though few teams will have money to make such a statement as Grantland notes.

"The Lakers, with Kobe Bryant’s disastrous extension wiped away that summer, could sniff three max cap slots. The Lakers’ cap flexibility yielded nothing of note last summer, but a Lakers team with the ability to offer a package deal to multiple stars is the ultimate NBA bogeyman."

While the Los Angeles Lakers did whiff on their attempts to bring LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to Southern California this past summer, the franchise will always be attractive to free agents, especially if they can create some type of a three-headed monster thanks to their vast amount of salary cap space.

Granted this is running under the assumption that the Los Angeles Lakers essentially have no contracts on their books after the 2015-16 season which seems to be pretty unlikely, though, it’s still plausible if Mitch Kupchak and company want to put themselves in such a position.

It certainly does give fans of the Los Angeles Lakers something to think about though. We’ve seen players desire to play with their friends and three max-level contracts would certainly be enticing.
