Roger Federer has a tough draw if he is to lift the trophy in Shanghai, a title he has never won before, which will make him even more motivated to succeed. Here is a look at what his path could look like if seedings and rankings are followed during the week:
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Leonardo Mayer
Round 3: Roberto Bautista Agut
Quarter-Finals: Grigor Dimitrov or Kei Nishikori
Semi-Finals: Novak Dkokovic or Andy Murray
Final: Rafael Nadal
Roger Federer is certainly in the tougher half of the draw, but fans of the Nadal-Federer rivalry will be hoping for a meeting in the Shangai Final that sees a return of the battle between two players who are both slated as the greatest of all time. Roger Federer’s progression through the draw will certainly have an impact of the Race to the World Tour Finals, with his Quarter-Final against Grigor Dimitrov or Kei Nishikori very significant in the context of the Race rankings.
Roger Federer himself will look to maintain his year end ranking of 3 in the world and perhaps even push rival Rafael Nadal for the 2nd spot. Novak Djokovic will be difficult to catch for the World Number 1 spot, but given he is likely to miss a few tournaments for the birth of his first child, Roger Federer will not give up just yet.
