So imagine you’re Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche, in the box against hard-throwing San Francisco Giants southpaw Madison Bumgarner.

That thought is scary enough but imagine the North Carolina native throwing you a 92-mph fastball and all of a sudden the lights go out. Sounds horrifying, right? Well, it’s essentially what LaRoche dealt with on Monday afternoon during the Washington Nationals playoff game against the San Francisco Giants.

Early in the game LaRoche was minding his business at the dish awaiting the pitch from Bumgarner when all of a sudden the skies over San Francisco turned pitch black. Looking like it was something out of a sci-fi movie, AT&T Park as a whole became very dark for about two seconds before the sun quickly emerged.

What the hell was that?!

A blimp had been seen in the area before the game though it’s not known if it was actually covering the game. You’d think if it was actually broadcasting for a network covering the game it would have made sure not to blackout the stadium in the middle of an inning, but alas, that’s exactly what happened.

Giants starter Madison Bumgarner ended up throwing a ball well outside so nobody was harmed on the play, but could you imagine if LaRoche would have yanked a liner back to Bumgarner or down to first base with the shadow? Could have been scary.
