There were two things made clear during the Chicago Bulls’ preseason opener against the Washington Wizards on Monday night.

More from Chicago Bulls

One, the Chicago Bulls are ready for the season to kick off and two, point guard Kirk Hinrich looked absolutely woeful on the court. Yes, it’s just one game though Kirk Hinrich hasn’t exactly been what you’d call a reliable player for a few seasons now.

It’s obvious the Chicago Bulls were concerned with what he brings to the table as the team signed multiple point guards during the offseason in case Hinrich was to struggle and that’s exactly what he did against the Wizards as Nate Duncan opines.

"Hinrich is just a complete zero offensively at this point, and giving him the two-year Room Exception was a major lost opportunity. All he can do at this point is make absolutely wide open threes, and even those he is reluctant to take if there is even the slightest closeout. The Wizards had so little respect for his offense that the Bulls had trouble running floppy sets because his man was laying off into the passing lanes so far."

While most would likely just sit Kirk Hinrich at the end of the bench, Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau seemingly has a special place for the former Kansas star and keeps putting him on the court despite the sub-par results. You have to wonder how much longer he’ll be able to do so unless the play of Hinrich picks up.

If there is a silver lining it’s that Kirk Hinrich can still play defense at a solid level (most of the time) and gives a bit of versatility given he can play shooting guard as well, though it seems as if the Chicago Bulls have better options at this point.
