Dallas Mavericks had interest in Gordon Hayward, Eric Bledsoe
By Bryan Rose
Although the Dallas Mavericks attempted to court Carmelo Anthony during free agency, they knew signing the All-Star would be tough. That’s why they focused energy elsewhere and eventually ended up signing Chandler Parsons.

Parsons proved to be the Mavericks’ most desired free agent target though he wasn’t alone as the team also had interest in signing Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz and Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns.
That’s the word from ESPN‘s Marc Stein who reported their previous interest in the then two restricted free agents.
"The trouble for the Mavericks is that Parsons, like two of the other top-five targets on Dallas’ list, was a dreaded restricted free agent, which put them at great risk to strike out again.…Those three: Gordon Hayward, Eric Bledsoe and the kid from Casselberry, Florida, who says he used to “wear Dirk jerseys to Orlando games” as a kid whenever the Mavs were in town."
Of course, the Dallas Mavericks weren’t the only team to have interest in such players as anybody with available cap space likely had interest in all three. However, unlike most, the Dallas Mavericks were willing to pony up the cash to sign at least of those players and they proved to do so after agreeing on terms with Chandler Parsons.
The Charlotte Hornets eventually ended up offering Gordon Hayward a deal though the contract was matched by the Utah Jazz. Eric Bledsoe meanwhile held out for most of the summer in effort to secure a very lucrative deal from the Phoenix Suns, which he did, proving the Dallas Mavericks likely made the best decision in Parsons over Hayward or Bledsoe.
Earlier today, Chandler Parsons suggested he would have re-signed with the Houston Rockets had they allowed him to do so.
