No. 5-1

5. Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons – previously no. 9

Matt Ryan has done a great job of rebounding from a down 2013. While he does have Julio Jones back, his offensive line is still in shambles, but it hasn’t stopped him from putting up big passing numbers almost every week. I debated a lot on if I should put Ryan or Russell Wilson in the fifth spot. It’s a toss up. I think Ryan is the better pure passer, but Wilson creates more with his unique athleticism. I don’t think you can go wrong either way, but it’s an interesting debate.

4. Andrew Luck – Indianapolis Colts – previously no. 7

Andrew Luck is leading the NFL in passing yards and passing TDs and is basically carrying his offense on his back. While Luck isn’t hurting for playmakers, you have to wonder what kind of numbers he might put up with Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning’s receivers. I believe that Luck is undeniably one of the five best QBs playing right now and it seems like it’s a matter of “when” not “if” he’ll reach the number one spot.

3. Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers – previously no. 4

You can make a pretty strong argument for Philip Rivers being number one on this list. He’s had a fantastic start to the season. He’s averaging 288.6 yards per game while completing 70% of his passes and averaging an NFL best 8.7 yards per attempt. He’s got the Chargers tied for the best record in the NFL and everyone has to be waiting for the Chargers/Broncos match ups to see Rivers and Peyton Manning go head to head. If one team can sweep the other it will likely mean the division, home field advantage in the playoffs, and the top spot on these QB rankings.

2. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – previously no. 2

Trying to split hairs between Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, and Peyton Manning is almost impossible. Ultimately, I decided that until someone clearly knocked them off their spot, I’d leave Rodgers and Manning in the top two spots. If you want to argue Rivers here, I’d be fine with that, but Rodgers has been lights out once again despite more lousy offensive line play. He’s on pace for 38 TDs and only 3 interceptions.

1. Peyton Manning – Denver Broncos – previously no. 1

As I said, Rivers, Rodgers, and Peyton all have a decent claim for the top spot on this list, but with Peyton the reigning top QB the spot will stay his until someone can clearly take it from him. While he isn’t quite on the tear that he was last season, he is still on pace for over 5,100 yards and 48 TDs. It’s hard to knock a QB down a rankings list like this when they are putting up those kind of numbers. The Broncos play the Chargers on Thursday Night Football later this month and that match up should go a long ways towards establishing the front runner from there on out. Until then, Peyton is still king of the mountain.

So there you go, the top 25 QBs of the 2014 season thus far. Are there any QBs that you think are ranked too high or two low? Any QBs that were left off that you think deserve to be on (Teddy Bridgewater?)? I personally really struggled with the #15-19 range. I think if you asked ten different people to rank Dalton, Foles, Flacco, Smith, and Kaepernick you might get ten different answers. I’d love to hear what you think of these rankings in the comments below.

Thanks for reading.
