Veteran defensive back Champ Bailey may be 36 years old, often injured and in the twilight of his career, but that does not mean he wants his career to come to an end.
That’s why he joined the New Orleans Saints in the offseason. The Saints, who really needed to upgrade in the back end, also added Jairus Byrd, who is now out for the season.
Champ Bailey’s stay in New Orleans didn’t last long and didn’t go well – the Saints released Champ Bailey prior to the season and he has been looking for a new team ever since.
According to Field Yates of ESPN.com, the Ravens tried Champ Bailey out. However, Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun reports they have no immediate plans to sign him.
Champ Bailey has 909 career tackles, 3.0 sacks and 52 interceptions. The Washington Redskins took Bailey with the seventh-overall selection in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent his first five seasons there before joining the Denver Broncos in 2004. Champ Bailey appeared in just five games for the Broncos last year.
The Detroit Lions have been the team most often tied to Champ Bailey.
Although it may not be with the Ravens, if Champ Bailey continues to express a desire to play, he will likely get his chance.
