Brett Favre happy that Peyton Manning will have TD record

Former gun-slinging quarterback Brett Favre is “glad” that Peyton Manning will be the one to break his record for the most career touchdown passes.

According to sources, future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre gave a phone interview from his home in Mississippi this week to the Associated Press and talked about Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. When asked about how he feels regarding Manning’s proximity to his all time touchdown passes record, he had the following to say.

More from Green Bay Packers

“I’m glad it’s Peyton that’s doing it. I think a lot of Peyton. I know him well. I know his family well. His dad was one of my idols” said Favre.

This certainly appears to be a showing of humility from the veteran quarterback and future hall of famer, who amassed an impressive total of 20 seasons of play, 16 of them with the Green Bay Packers. During his career, Favre racked up the all time records in virtually every category including but not limited to touchdown passes (508), passing yards (71,838), completions (6,300), consecutive starts by any position player (297), and yes, even interceptions (336). His 186 wins under center are also the benchmark.

And although Manning will likely break Favre’s record for TD passes withing the next 2-3 games, his career win total is still out of reach for at least one more season. Such is the case with many of Favre’s other records. No matter how you feel about the guy; half-hearted retirements, phone scandals, and all, this is perhaps that greatest testament to his legacy; his longevity.

Plus, we should be honest for a second. How many people outside of the New England area would be this happy to see Tom Brady in Manning’s current position? If nothing else, many of you should have that to be “glad” about too.
