Los Angeles Lakers to shoot only 10 to 15 three pointers per game

When you watch the Los Angeles Lakers this season, you may not recognize them and that’s not because of the roster overhaul.

Under previous head coach Mike D’Antoni, the Los Angeles Lakers fired up nearly 25 three point shots per game. That’s not something Byron Scott is a fan of as he’d prefer the team keep the total to a much lower figure, somewhere around 10-15 three point attempts per game.
“Our game plan is really to get to that basket,” said Scott after practice Tuesday. “I like the fact that we only shot 10 threes. If we shoot between 10 and 15, I think that’s a good mixture of getting to that basket and shooting threes.
“I don’t want us to be coming down, forcing up a bunch of threes. I really want us to attack the basket.”
While it’s understandable that Scott wants the Los Angeles Lakers to take higher percentage shots, you need to have a general balance or teams will simply pack the paint. Putting a cap on the amount of perimeter shots the Lakers take may not be the best strategy though it’s understandable as to why Byron Scott wants to shed the D’Antoni label that has been stigmatized over the organization.
For what it’s worth, the Lakers took just ten three point shots in their preseason opener against the Denver Nuggets and knocked down five, good for a 50 percent clip.
Just wait until Nick Young recovers from his torn thumb ligament and gets back on the court. Byron Scott should have a fun time trying to stop Swaggy P from unloading three point bomb after three point bomb. He might need Kobe Bryant to keep the ball away from Young until he falls in line.
