Pegula on Buffalo Bills sale: I got a hell of a deal, I own the team
By Cory Buck
Terry Pegula was approved unanimously as the buyer of the Buffalo Bills by NFL owners and while he couldn’t say much about the process or the team until the wires are sent and the money is officially in its new home, he did have a few things to say in a press conference. His overriding theme? He’s excited to own the team, no matter the cost.

Chris Brown, who writes for the Bills’ team website, writes that when Pegula was asked about the exorbitant $1.4 billion price he paid for the Bills and whether that was too much, Pegula replied, “I got a hell of a deal. I own the team.”
Pegula added, “If you had asked me 10 years ago if I would have been the owner of the Buffalo Sabres and the Bills, I’d have called you a liar”
He also mentioned that his interest in the Bills went back further than anyone could imagine, which runs in line with talk that Pegula actually wanted to buy the Bills much more initially than he did the Sabres. His wife Kim was rumored to have convinced him to bid on the Sabres, which led to the downtown rejuvenation that Buffalo has seen in the form of new ice rinks and hotels. Such moves made him the hometown favorite to win the bid on the Bills, a fact not lost on the Ralph Wilson estate that sold the team.
Now Pegula will take that same enterprising approach to one of the most beleaguered but loyal fanbases in the league. It’s already a given that he’ll keep the Bills in Buffalo, but to make them a champion in the NFL would be Pegula’s greatest achievement as an owner. For now, he’ll have to settle for the adulation of millions of Bills fans.
