Canty underwent successful surgery on his wrist to remove an infection. He missed last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts in which the Colts ran for 117 yards.
Not having Canty in the middle of the line likely led to some of their success. He is a key piece in Baltimore’s run stuffing front.
DeAngelo Tyson will likely continue to receive the starts in the absence of Canty. Tyson, a seventh round pick in the 2012 darft in his third season out of Georgia, has recorded 13 tackles so far this season. He has 34 tackles in 28 games (3 starts) in his career so far.
The Ravens will miss the veteran presence of Canty. He was a fourth round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2005 NFL draft out of the University of Virginia. He was traded to Dallas shortly after he was picked with the upcoming sixth round pick for the Cowboys’ upcoming fifth round pick and their fourth rounder from next year.
This turned out pretty well for Dallas. Canty started 50 games in four years, recording 102 tackles and 10 sacks.
He signed with the Giants before the 2009 season, and continued his success there. Canty recorded 86 tackles and nine sacks in 45 starts over four seasons there as well.
This is Canty’s second season in Baltimore. He had 20 tackles and two sacks in 13 starts last season. So far this year, he has 11 tackles in four games.
