When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Jeremy Lin in a trade with the Houston Rockets (a deal which they almost didn’t complete), there was speculation that Lin could take over the starting point guard duties.

It seemed very possible given the injury concerns regarding Steve Nash, but to open the season it appears as if Jeremy Lin will serve as the Los Angeles Lakers second-unit point guard according to Basketball Insiders.
"As long as 40-year old Steve Nash is healthy, Lin will serve as the floor leader for the Lakers’ second unit. Lin, acquired in a trade from the Houston Rockets, is capable of major scoring jags. If he can keep his assists up and turnovers down, he’ll help the Lakers this season. Of course, Nash hasn’t been able to stay on the court through most of his two seasons with the Lakers. An injury could bump Lin to the starting lineup, alongside Bryant."
How long Jeremy Lin will actually be coming off the bench is unknown given Steve Nash is a swift wind from again finding himself out of action.
Despite the fact that Lin will likely initially come off the bench, that doesn’t mean he won’t get starter level time. The Los Angeles Lakers will try to incorporate Jordan Clarkson into the point guard mix as well, though he appears to be the clear cut third point guard on the roster meaning it’s Lin and Nash who will battle it out for the majority of minutes at the one spot.
It almost seems inevitable that Jeremy Lin will eventually be named the Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard though for now it seems as if he’ll be coming off the bench to start the season.
