Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell compares Teddy Bridgewater to Russell Wilson

More from Detroit Lions

Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t been the Minnesota Vikings’ starter for more than five games and he’s already drawing comparisons to some of the best quarterbacks in the league.

When asked about the Vikings QB, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell compared the rookie to Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson.

From The Detroit News:

"“This guy is a good player,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell said. “I looked at him coming out closely, and this guy can think on his feet. He can deliver the ball, he’s very good in terms of analyzing defenses (and) he does it quickly.“The other thing is that he gets outside of the pocket. He’s like Russell Wilson.”"

For the sake of Vikings fans who’ve struggled finding a suitable quarterback post-Brett Favre, they better hope he’s right.

The jury wasn’t all in on Russell Wilson when he was drafted, similar to Teddy Bridgewater. Like Wilson, Bridgewater slid in his draft and like Wilson, he landed on a team that was built so he wouldn’t have to carry them night-in and night-out (Adrian Peterson’s absence may change that).

In his first game as a starter, Teddy Bridgewater showed promise. In a win over the Atlanta Falcons, Bridgewater tallied 317 passing yards on 19 completions along with a rushing touchdown and a quarterback rating of 98.9.

While every team he faces from here on out won’t have a defense as bad and inconsistent as the Falcons, Teddy showed why many pegged him as the best quarterback of the 2014 NFL Draft and if he can be Russell Wilson-esque from here on out, the Vikings will be comfortable at the quarterback position for the next 10 seasons.
