For a year now we’ve heard back-and-forth regarding LaMarcus Aldridge’s desire to remain with the Portland Trail Blazers once his contract comes to an end.

More from NBA

A free agent to be, Aldridge has yet to commit to the Portland Trail Blazers though has been saying all the right things. That includes his most recent comment suggesting that he wants to retire as the greatest Trail Blazer ever.

"Anything can happen between now and this summer. But Aldridge said he wanted to retire in Portland. He said he wanted to be the “best Blazer ever.”"

While he’s obviously not at that stage yet, LaMarcus Aldridge is certainly climbing the ranks and could soon be thought of among the franchise elite like Clyde Drexler. Of course, to do such he’ll need to re-sign with the Portland Trail Blazers at season end though he seems very open to doing such.

As for the type of cash Aldridge is looking for, the former Texas star seems ready to get paid though says he’s not currently focusing on such despite the new television deal which is expected to increase player salaries across the board.

“Of course it changes numbers and fluctuates deals,” LaMarcus Aldridge said. “But I haven’t got into thoughts about that. I just read up on it so I can be informed about the current NBA state and know what it is out there.”

The only problem for Aldridge is that the new television deal won’t kick in until after this offseason so to cash in, he’d need to accept a one-year offer before signing a long-term extension. That’s possible though unlikely given the risks involved.

It seems likely the big man will be back with the Portland Trail Blazers on a hefty deal come the end of the season.
