With a payroll that could fund a third world country, the Los Angeles Dodgers had much bigger dreams than claiming a National League West title.

Alas that’s all the Dodgers could do after they were eliminated in the National League Division Series by the St. Louis Cardinals in four games. It was another disappointing end for the highest payroll in Major League Baseball and it appears you can only have so many failures with that type of funding before the chair gets pulled out from under you.

That’s the scenario facing Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colleti who is reportedly said to be on the hot seat.

As for the job of manager Don Mattingly, that’s a bit more complicated. It’s been suggested the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership felt as if the team assembled (namely the bullpen) wasn’t strong enough for Mattingly to have success, though a new general manager would likely prefer to install his own manager which could make things dicey for Mattingly in Los Angeles.

It’s not as if Mattingly has proven himself to be a top manager and is routinely questioned for his decision making so if the Dodgers were to rid themselves of Colletti, might that increase the changes that Mattingly could be fired as well?

Whatever the case may be, the Dodgers certainly know how to involve themselves in drama and even though the offseason is in full swing for the Southern California franchise, it seems as if there is still lingering issues from the regular season to deal with.
