Although the triangle offense is simplistic on the surface, it’s far more complicated for those attempting to learn the system.

That’s something the New York Knicks are quickly learning as they attempt to implement this new offense for the upcoming season.
Speaking to the New York Post, Knicks swingman J.R. Smith stated that it’s likely going to take a few months for the team to fully understand the new offense being run by head coach Derek Fisher.
“It’s going to take a few months. Over the course of the year understanding where everybody is going to be,” Smith said. “It’s going to take a while.”
Struggling to pick up the triangle offense isn’t something unique to the New York Knicks as many who’ve attempted to run the basic though intricate system have failed at first, though eventually were able to pick things up after continued practice.
Part of the reason as to why the New York Knicks may be having trouble with the triangle is simply because they’re working with a roster not fully built around its perks. Team president Phil Jackson still needs an additional year or so to bring in players that compliment the triangle offense as opposed to using some of the previous regime’s leftovers.
The New York Knicks have been very quick to suggest that the 2014-15 season, despite the return of Carmelo Anthony, is still one of a rebuilding sense so any type of success the team can have this year will likely be icing on the cake. For now it seems as if Derek Fisher has quite a challenge ahead of him as he attempts to teach the triangle offense which understandably takes a considerable amount of time to master.
