The Detroit Lions head to TCF Bank Stadium this weekend to take on the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately for Lions fans, following a loss to the Buffalo Bills, another could be on the way Sunday. The Lions will likely be without both Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush.
Although both players were a part of the loss to the Bills last weekend, their roles were significantly diminished. Johnson was nursing a sore ankle and on his lone catch, he aggravated the injury. Johnson has since said he needs rest to get back to full health. Bush hasn’t practiced all week either and looks like a long shot to play.
Lions beat writer Dave Birkett weighed in:
Johnson has been considered to be out all week, but Reggie Bush looked more like an uncertain play, now it seems as if both explosive playmakers will miss the game. For the Lions, the news is daunting.
Joique Bell has yet to pass concussion protocols and his status is also up in the air. The Lions would then have to turn to George Winn and Theo Riddick as the only healthy running backs on their roster. As far as wide receivers go, Golden Tate, Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross, and Ryan Broyles would be the corps.
Another name that would figure to emerge in picking up some of the slack with Calvin Johnson being out is Eric Ebron. The talented rookie tight end has shown positive signs and he will be in need of a breakout game.
The Vikings will get Teddy Bridgewater back under center on Sunday and it appears as if Harrison Smith will be able to play. Minnesota will likely still be without linebacker Chad Greenway.
Kickoff is at 1:00 EST on Sunday.
