By Bryan Rose
When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired point guard Jeremy Lin from the Houston Rockets, they knew they were getting a talented offensive player though his defense could use some work.

Who better to teach Lin about improving on the defensive side than Kobe Bryant? That’s exactly what’s been going on during training camp for the Los Angeles Lakers as Bryant has taken Jeremy Lin under his wing in effort to not only improve his defense, but to make him a better player overall.
“Jeremy’s biggest challenge, which he loves, is I’m really going to challenge him to be a great defensive player because he can,” Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said. “He has the speed. He has the length. He has the size. But he’s never had to take on that challenge to be a great defensive player.”
Lin, for what it’s worth, has been all ears and soaks up anything Bryant has to say.
“That’s pretty much all I talk to him about on the court,” Lin said. “He’s pushing me and demanding a lot from me. He’s definitely taking a mentorship role with me on the court. That’s something I don’t think I’ve had in my previous four years in the league.”
Previously Lin spoke about Kobe Bryant’s attention to detail and what separates the Black Mamba from other talent like James Harden and Carmelo Anthony.
There’s no doubt that Bryant can at times come off as overbearing and aggressive, but if you’re in his corner and dedicated to winning as Jeremy Lin is, he’ll do everything he can to make you a better player. So far that’s what we’ve seen through camp. How it translates into the regular season is currently an unknown, though if Jeremy Lin continues to soak things in you have to think it’ll do wonders for the team.
