Duffy was excellent in the regular season for the Royals, posting a record of 9-12 with a brilliant 2.53 ERA, but the 25-year old experienced shoulder soreness in late September, and Kansas City has been careful with how Duffy has been used since, as he’s already had Tommy John surgery once, and plan to use Duffy as a long reliever.
Guthrie hasn’t had as good a season as Duffy, with a 4.13 ERA and a record of 13-11, but he’s a 10-year MLB veteran, and Duffy should be available in the pen if Guthrie falters. And while batter versus pitcher matchups are largely useless, Guthrie has some good numbers against his former team:
Game 3 of the ALCS starts at 8 p.m. Eastern on October 13.
