Mike Moustakas came through in extra innings again as he delivered a key home run to pad the lead for the Kansas City Royals as they held on to defeat the Baltimore Orioles in Game 1 of the ALCS.

I’m not sure that anybody, even the biggest Mike Moustakas enthusiast, would have believed you if you had told him/her that the embattled third baseman would play hero multiple times during the 2014 MLB playoffs.

When Moustakas hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning on Friday night, it provided two insurance runs that may or may not have been necessary. This proved to be a huge moment in the end, because Greg Holland surrendered a run in the bottom of the 10th before locking down the save.

The Royals hit less than 100 home runs over the course of the entire regular season, yet they keep coming through with clutch home runs in the playoffs.

Moustakas batted .212/.271/.361 this season with 15 home runs ad 54 RBI. The power was always there, but boy, it has to be the most pleasant of pleasant surprises for the Royals that his power is shining through in key moments in the postseason.
