Thanks to LeBron James leaving the Miami Heat to return home the Cleveland Cavaliers, there has been a lot of speculation about other stars who could have a homecoming of their own.
One player that many believe could make a move is Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant is from D.C. and there is speculation he could sign with the Washington Wizards.
Susan Bible of Basketball Insiders believes there is a “real possibility” Durant leaves the Thunder in 2016.
"I think it’s a very real possibility that Kevin Durant won’t spend his entire career with the Thunder. As much as I would like him to follow in the steps of say, Magic Johnson or Reggie Miller (guys who stayed with one franchise), I doubt it…unless the Thunder start winning some titles. It’s not money, it’s championships that will keep him in OKC. In the meantime, all they can do to ensure he stays is to make certain he has solid pieces around him. If OKC had been successful in obtaining Pau Gasol, this conversation probably goes away until next year. However, it’s still a pretty young team that keeps improving – is it enough? Will injuries again thwart their title attempts? We’ll see. So, until the season plays out, the chatter will continue."
Kevin Durant will draw interest from every team in the league and three in particular – the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks – stand out.
Durant averaged 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 50.3% from the floor, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 87.3% from the charity stripe during the regular season. In his career, he’s averaged 27.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field, 37.7% from three and 88.2% from the field.
