In just a matter of hours the St. Louis Cardinals will open up the Busch Stadium doors to the country as they host the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of the 2014 National League Championship Series.

Not that far away from the comfy confines of Busch there is significant civil unrest due in part to the shooting deaths of Michael Brown and Vonderrit Myers Jr. Not wanting any of that to spill over into the stands the St. Louis Cardinals have increased their security measures for both Game 1 and Game 2 of the NLCS according to TMZ Sports.

"The St. Louis Cardinals tell TMZ Sports they have a “heightened awareness” of the explosive situation in the streets of St. Louis and will take extensive security measures to keep fans safe at this weekend’s playoff games. With the Cardinals hosting the NLCS on Saturday and Sunday, a rep for the team tells us, “Our people have been coordinating with the St. Louis Police Department and Major League Baseball security” in an effort to protect the fans."

TMZ also states that while the St. Louis Cardinals usually beef up security for ‘big games’ the racial tension is ‘on their radar’.

We’ve already seen a fan critically beaten in the parking lot of Angels Stadium after a game between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels and the last thing you want to do is mix alcohol with a racial tensions. Hopefully the extra security will pay off and fans will behave themselves.

Sadly all it takes is one bad apple out of the bunch, but fingers crossed life outside of the stadium doesn’t make its way inside.

Madison Bumgarner will take the mound for the Giants in Game 1 while Adam Wainwright opposes for the St. Louis Cardinals.
