NBA Rumors: Ricky Rubio, T’Wolves at ‘standstill’ on extension
With the Minnesota Timberwolves and Ricky Rubio looking to agree to an extension, the two sides have reportedly come to a standstill during negotiations.
As the late October deadline for rookie extensions draw nearer, it seems more unlikely that the Minnesota Timberwolves and star point guard Ricky Rubio agree to a deal. According to Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press, the two sides have reportedly come to a standstill.
The talks between Rubio and the Wolves have been ongoing since the season ended and the issues that have held up talks remain the same: Ricky Rubio (or his agent) is demanding a maximum contract and the Wolves are offering a deal in the ball park of 4-years, $48 million.

And with neither side wavering from their position, that leads to a standstill.
Considering Ricky Rubio is a restricted free agent and the Wolves will do whatever it is to retain their star in the post-Kevin Love life, the possibility of surpassing the October 31st deadline without a deal is in play.
Then, Ricky Rubio could seek the max contract he demands in free agency, forcing the Wolves to decide between keeping Rubio at a deal that could be toward $100 million or moving on without him, with the latter seeming very unlikely.
Last season, Ricky Rubio averaged 9.5 points and 8.6 assists per game.
