Although Carmelo Anthony spent portions of his offseason speaking to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Kobe Bryant regarding the triangle offense, the New York Knicks forward is seemingly having difficulty picking things up.

Of course the struggles aren’t just on Anthony as New York Knicks teammate J.R. Smith recently stated he feels it will take a couple months for the team to get comfortable with the new offense.

Melo meanwhile is still adjusting to life in the triangle as he told ESPN.

“It’s an adjustment,” Anthony said, after the Knicks’ preseason win over the Celtics on Saturday. “it’s an adjustment because I’m used to taking my time and seeing where the defense is coming from. And even now, it’s a medium that you’ve got to play with. Sometimes you can hold it a little, sometimes you don’t have it, (you have to) get it out quickly. So it’s an adjustment for me.”

Very few have ever immediately picked up on the triangle offense and it appears to be a work in progress for both the New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony, though thankfully head coach Derek Fisher who ran such an offense with the Los Angeles Lakers is very knowledgeable about the system and seems confident the team will adjust.

Hopefully it doesn’t take a few months as suggested by Smith as the last thing the New York Knicks need is to stumble out of the gate. Still, the franchise is still playing in a bit of a transition year as they not only attempt to learn a completely new offense but are waiting for major salaries to come off the books so they can be active players in free agency come 2015 and 2016.
