With news hitting the wire stating Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant will be out a minimum of six-to-eight weeks, OKC is going to need to make some changes to their offensive game plan.

One player who stands to benefit from Durant’s injury will be backup swingman Reggie Jackson who will likely become the Oklahoma City Thunder’s second offensive option moving forward. Russell Westbrook is likely to take over Kevin Durant’s role as the first option.

"With news that Kevin Durant will be sidelined for a minimum of the first 6-8 weeks, Reggie Jackson looks to be the team’s second-option on offense."

There was already speculation suggesting that Reggie Jackson, a restricted free agent at season end, would likely be given a starting spot though with Durant now out for two months there’s no doubt Reggie Jackson will be included in the Thunder’s starting five.

The biggest question is how this will impact his potential free agency bid. Reggie Jackson has already stated he’d welcome a return to the Oklahoma City Thunder and they obviously want to keep their budding young star, though know it will cost a pretty penny to do so.

If Reggie Jackson is to elevate his game during Kevin Durant’s absence you have to assume that will only increase his price tag at season end. Currently the Thunder and Jackson have until October 31st to agree on a contract extension though Jackson’s likely only to do so if he’s given a promise that he’ll be a consistent starter.

Regardless it seems as if Jackson will see a bump in both minutes and usage until Kevin Durant returns from his injury.

Jackson averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds last season as a starter for the Thunder.
