Six teams are very interested in veteran guard Ray Allen but the Cleveland Cavaliers remain the favorite to land the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

There are at least six teams – the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards – trying to keep Ray Allen from hanging his sneakers up.

Most believe Ray Allen will eventually decide to play but could wait until after the All-Star break to do so. The Cavaliers have seemed like the favorite to land Ray Allen for some time and according to J. Michael of CSN Washington, the Cavaliers are still the favorite to land Ray Allen.

"Coincidentally, I talked with a person close to him Friday who told me nothing has changed. The Wizards have contacted Allen’s representatives at Tandem Sports and Entertainment several times, both reported here. The prospect of being a starter again with Beal’s absence isn’t likely to make Washington any more enticing for Allen. He’ll soon be 40. Six teams have actually contacted his reps since he became an unrestricted free agent — the Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder and …. the Milwaukee Bucks. Yes, the latter is not a mistake. Allen spent the first six-plus seasons of his career in Milwaukee, and the franchise’s pitch was a chance to end things where they began. Creative and worth a shot? Yes. Did it work? No. The Wizards are still hopeful, but suffice to say the Cavs are the front-runners as GM David Griffin has been in contact as recently as a few days ago, CSNwashington.com can confirm. Still, nothing."

Playing for the Bulls, Spurs or Thunder all have to be very intriguing because they are all legitimate contenders. In Washington, he could be reunited with Paul Pierce, who he won a title with in Boston with the Celtics. Milwaukee would be a feel-good story because he started his career there but they are not a contender and Ray Allen wants another title. The Cavaliers may have the NFL’s most talented roster now and his familiarity with LeBron James is likely what gives them an edge.

Ray Allen averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 44.2% from the field, 37.5% from three and 90.5% from the free throw line last season. In his historic career, he has averaged 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 45.2% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc and 89.4% from the free throw line.
